During this extraordinary journey north of the Arctic Circle, we’ll explore Disko Bay and the Ilulissat Icefjord all the while chasing the “Midnight Sun.” During August in Greenland the sun hardly sets, sitting low on the horizon all day and creating spectacular lighting conditions. With deep icy blues and a sky tinged fiery red, this magical light lasts for hours and provides the perfect backdrop for the breathtaking icebergs and wildlife we’ll photograph!
Because there are no highways in Greenland, we charter two private sailboats for our adventure. The sailboats serve not just as our transportation on the icefjord, but also a photo prop – with their red sails adding a pop of color and giving the icebergs a sense of scale.
Out on the Icefjord, the water is glassy calm and there are next to no waves. On clear evenings, we’ll capture incredible mirror-like reflections, and on cloudy or foggy afternoons, we’ll create ethereal images of this other-worldly landscape.
When we’re not out on the water, we’ll explore the quaint towns of Ilulissat and Oqaatsut, capturing the colorful architecture and village sled dogs and experiencing all that Greenland’s local culture and cuisine has to offer.
