FAQ

Who are you guys?

Red Dot Photo Workshops offers the world’s finest Leica-specific workshops, photo adventures, and experiences. Our team of Leica Specialists has decades of combined experience with Leica cameras, lenses, accessories, and more. Red Dot Photo Workshops is proudly powered by Leica Store Miami.

Do I need to have a Leica to come on a trip?

All cameras are welcome on our trips! That said, we do cater our experiences towards Leica users, who will enjoy the specialized knowledge of our Leica Specialists, and the community created by spending time around other like-minded photographers.

How do I know if this trip is right for me?

We do our best to make sure our trips have something for everyone, from new photographers to seasoned professionals. Still, every trip is different, so we’ve created a rating system to give you an “at-a-glance” overview on each listing. Some itineraries are more “photo-intensive”, while others are more relaxed.  Some may require heavy physical activity, while others are mostly “classroom-style”. If you’re unsure about anything, just ask us and we’ll help you decide.

Photo Workshops vs. Photo Adventures

Our Photo Workshops provide classroom instruction and generally work to improve skills in a specific area (ex: Moab Astrophotography Workshop, New Orleans Fine Art Printing Workshop).  Photo Adventures, on the other hand, prioritize shooting for as much of the day as possible and taking advantage of every photographic opportunity available (ex: Iceland, Patagonia, Greenland).

Can I bring a non-photographer companion with me?

Often, yes, and we are always glad when they do. Whether there is an added cost depends on the trip.

On our expedition and small-group departures, our operators charge us the same rate for every person traveling, whether or not they are photographing, and space is limited by the vehicles, vessels, and lodging we have booked. On those trips a companion pays the full workshop rate and books as a second participant.

On our single hotel workshops, in places like Lisbon and Paris, a companion is welcome at no additional workshop fee. You simply book yourself, and the private room rate is applied automatically so the two of you have the room to yourselves. You cover your companion’s own costs along the way: meals, admissions, and anything outside the workshop itself.

Every workshop listing includes a “Good for Non-photographers” rating, which will tell you at a glance how much there is for a companion to enjoy while you are out shooting. If you are still unsure, ask us before you book and we will walk you through that specific departure.

How do I prepare for the trip?

A personalized Zoom call with your guides is included in all of our trips.  We will make sure you’ve got everything you need to have a great experience – from cameras and lenses, to jackets and boots, and even advice on booking your travel arrangements.

Do you provide loaner Leica gear?

Yes – while we have limited availability of loaner equipment, we do our best to accommodate requests for cameras and lenses. New releases, limited and special editions may not be possible to loan out. Please let us know ahead of time if you’re interested in trying a specific camera/lens and we’ll do our best to source a loaner for you.

Are flights/travel expenses included?

No – flights to/from your destination are not included.

Are meals included in the ticket price?

Yes – unless otherwise specified, all meals are included. Snacks and alcoholic beverages are not.

Is lodging included in the ticket price?

Yes – unless otherwise specified, all lodging during the trip is included.

What can I expect for meals?

We try to include fine dining experiences when possible on our trips, however our main priority is photography and depending on the destination we may or may not have access to a variety of dining options.  For example, dining out in Paris is a bit different than the very limited options available in Arctic destinations like Greenland or Norway.

How many people are on these trips?

Generally, our trips are limited to 6-10 guests and 2-3 guides, depending on the itinerary. We usually aim for a 3-to-1 or 4-to-1 ratio of guests to guides, so you can get as much personalized attention as possible during the trip.
