Tokyo Street Photography Workshop
  • Timeframe: Fall or Spring
  • Workshop Type: Street Photography
  • Arrival & Departure: Haneda Airport (HND)
  • Duration: 7 Days

Tokyo is one of the great street photography cities, a place where centuries-old rituals and relentless modern energy share the same sidewalk. Over seven days, we’ll explore the city on foot and by train, moving between the quiet lanes of Yanaka and Asakusa, the morning bustle of local markets, and the crowded crossings of Shibuya and Shinjuku. Daytime sessions focus on the fundamentals of working on the street: reading light, anticipating moments, finding strong compositions in busy scenes, and approaching people with confidence and respect. Each day includes time in the field alongside your instructors, plus relaxed image reviews where we talk through what’s working and where to push next.

When the sun goes down, Tokyo becomes a different city entirely, and that’s when some of the best pictures happen. We’ll spend our evenings chasing neon and reflections through the narrow alleys of Omoide Yokocho and Golden Gai, the glow of Ginza, and the backstreets where salarymen gather at tiny izakayas after work. You’ll learn how to handle high ISO and mixed light, when to slow the shutter for motion, and how to make the most of rain-slicked streets and glowing storefronts. By the end of the week, you’ll come home with a cohesive body of work that captures both sides of Tokyo, and a sharper eye for photographing any city after dark.
